‘These wheels were made for pushing’

Wheelchair push for Aware

After spending the last year in lockdown and being restricted to a 5km radius, Simon Malley wondered how many kilometres he could do in his wheelchair in a month without leaving his 5km restriction. “These wheels were made for pushing,” thought Simon.

He has set himself a goal of 200km which he hopes to achieve between the 9th April and 30th June and in doing so he wants to raise much needed funds for the charity Aware. Aware is one of the partners in the Dioceses of Meath and Kildare’s ‘Mind Yourself’ project – to raise awareness of mental health issues and point people to where they can find support and help.

Simon will be very grateful for any support which he receives. He is a member of Kildare and Newbridge Group of parishes.

Talking about why he has set himself this challenge, he said, “With everything that has happened over this last year I wanted to highlight the great work and help that is available through the work of Aware.” He continued, “Since starting this I have been really overwhelmed by the amount of kindness there is out there in our community. I enjoy getting up and working towards this goal every day and I have already seen so many good things about human nature through it all.”
