NEW MOVEMENT TO ENCOURAGE DAILY PRAYER
CREDO, a movement for the re-establishment of the saying of the Daily Office, Morning or Evening Prayer or parts of it, began on 6 January, the Feast of Epiphany 2003. The idea originated with the late Niall Chadwick. He believed that churches should be open with the Daily Office said by clergy and laity together and where that was not possible the laity should take an active role in ensuring the Office was faithfully recited. Following Niall's untimely death, Dr Jennifer Moreton organised a committee to further his aim. The committee felt it impractical to gather people together each day at a particular hour due to distance, time restraints, work commitments and other considerations, but that many people could make a commitment to read the Office at home and meet once a year for Choral Evensong to celebrate their fellowship in the life of daily communal prayer. Each person can develop their own Rule to suit their situation - either morning or evening or both, which form of prayer to use and the length of time they spend in prayer. The important requirement is that as many as can will begin this pilgrimage, united in a common bond of prayer to God, interceding for the Church and the World as we face so many challenges travelling on our pilgrimage to God.
