COMMISSIONING OF NEW DIRECTOR OF THE CHURCH'S MINISTRY OF HEALING

The Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Robin Eames, will commission the Revd Sue Watterson as Director of the Church's Ministry of Healing at a service in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, on Tuesday 9 September, 2003 at 2.30 pm. The address will be given by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr John Neill.

The new Director succeeds former Warden Revd David Catterall, who is now Rector of Longford. (The old title of Warden has been replaced by the new title of Director.) For the past three years Sue has been Rector of Youghal Union, Co Cork, a position she is leaving to work full-time with the Church's Ministry of Healing. Based in Dublin she will work from CMH's Head Office, Egan House, at St Michan's Church, Church Street.

Originally from Stretford in Lancashire Mrs Watterson has wide pastoral experience, with a background in Christian healing. She studied for four years at the Sodor and Man Training Institute before being ordained a deacon in 1987. Her career as a deacon included working as Diocesan Youth officer for the Diocese of Sodor and Man, and member of a therapeutic care team for young offenders in care, curate of the parish of Castletown, Acorn Christian Listening Tutor, and Diocesan Advisor for Healing

In 1994 she was ordained a priest. Two years later she left the Isle of Man for a post as a member of Bristol University Chaplaincy Team and assistant priest at St Paul's University Church Clifton. This included a year as tutor to first year medical students in the Department of Psychiatry. While at Bristol she spent the summer of 1998 in South Africa researching the care of HIV and AIDS sufferers.

In 1999 she moved to Ireland where she took up a post with the Acorn Christian Foundation of Ireland. A year later she was appointed Rector of Youghal.

Mrs Watterson's academic qualifications include a Diploma in Special Needs Education from the Open University, a Diploma in Journalism from Glasgow International College and a M.Phil. in Pastoral Theology from Bristol University.
