SEAMUS HEANEY MEETS 'THE GOLDEN GIRLS' AT THE CHURCH OF IRELAND COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Thursday, 11 December 2003 will be an historic day in the long history of the Church of Ireland College of Education 96 Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin 6 when Seamus Heaney formally presents three students from the class of 2002/2003, Elaine Anderson, Nikki Richardson and Emma Stinson with Gold Medals at 12.30 pm.

Gold medals are awarded by the University of Dublin to first-class honours candidates who have shown exceptional merit at their degree examinations. It is very unusual for so many Gold medals to be awarded in one subject and for the three recipients to be from the one College is rare.

Two other CICE students in the same class also received first class honours degrees, Sarah Eager and Glenn McCullagh.

Seamus Heaney is Ireland’s best known poet. He trained as a teacher at St Joseph’s College of Education, Belfast, For a number of years he was Head of English at Carysfort College of Education, Blackrock.
