CHURCH TESTS COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS

Church of Ireland communications in print media and websites is being judged by a top panel of professionals as the church?s annual magazine and website competition reaches its final stages.

Media Officer Brian Parker said the judges now faced some tough decisions as the standard of design and editorial skills continue to improve.

He said: ?It seems many editors have taken on board the lessons from last year?s competition. There is an encouraging input from clergy and parishioners who are obviously skilled in presentation and production techniques. This is particularly true of websites where it seems some young people with expertise are making a significant contribution to the design and content of websites.?

The judges this year are (shown left to right): Mrs Rosalind Rogers, Head of the School of Communications, UUJ; Mr Jonathan Martin, Managing Director, J Martin Associates; Mr Rodney Miller, Chartered Designer; Rev Dr Bert Tosh, Head of Religious Broadcasting BBC(NI).

The results of the competition will be announced by Archbishop Robin Eames at the Church of Ireland General Synod in Armagh on Thursday, 13 May 2004.
