PRESIDENT MCALEESE TO VISIT MOLYNEAUX HOME
President Mary McAleese will visit the Molyneux Home, Leeson Park, on Thursday 26 June. During her visit the President will meet the residents, staff and members of the Board. Originally established in 1815 in Peter Street by Sir Capel Molyneux to provide care and tuition for the blind, the Home moved to its present location in Leeson Park in 1862. Over the years the Home has evolved into a nursing home for elderly ladies. Priority, however, is still given to those who are visually impaired. Presently the Home has 21 residents, three of whom are blind. One of the oldest residents is the fully independent 96 year-old Phyllis Wilson who enjoys entertaining her friends with sing-songs on the piano. |
