'WEEK OF PRAYER FOR THE HEALING OF OUR COMMUNITY'
This interdenominational week of prayer will be held in Townsend St. Presbyterian Church, right on the peaceline between the Shankill and Falls roads. (Monday June 30 until Friday July 4, 11 am – 2 pm each day). Brother David Jardine, organiser of the event, says 'Right beside the symbol of division, the peaceline, people from all traditions will be coming together in a spirit of unity to pray for the healing of our community. Last year more than 2,500 took part in this week of prayer.' This is an impressive line-up of speakers: Hugo Duncan, BBC Radio Ulster; Karen Marsden, Downtown Radio; Michael McGoldrick and Annie Harkness, both of whom suffered deeply in the Troubles, but have forgiven: James Tate, Tom Kelly, David Packie Hamilton, former long-term paramilitary prisoners; Peter McCann and Michael Halliday, Irish League footballers; Robin Mark, singer and songwriter from East Belfast, whose songs are being sung all over the world; Jackie Burke, healed from alchohol and drug addiction. David Jardine says 'This week will be an opportunity to welcome God into every aspect of the life of this community. Especially we will be focussing prayer on those who suffered during the Troubles.' Everyone is welcome to come to the week of prayer, even if only for a very short time. |
