Official launch of a special Cathedral model

The Dean of Armagh, the Very Revd Shane Forster, was honoured to take part in the official launch of a model of St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral, on Thursday (17th October) in the Armagh City Hotel.

This beautiful work of art has been created over the last year by members of the Armagh Men’s Shed – a community–based organisation with a focus on providing a safe, friendly and inclusive social environment for men of all ages.

The model, which also includes the Crypt, was designed using photographs and drawings of the building following numerous site visits. Armagh Men’s Shed has also created models of other famous churches in Armagh, including St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral.

Dean Forster remarked: “I was invited to view the model in the early stages of its production and have watched it progress through the regular updates posted on the Armagh Men’s Shed Facebook page.  It is an incredible achievement, which has taken great skill, time and dedication.  I am extremely grateful to the members of the Men’s Shed for their hard work and for their kindness in allowing their model to go on display in the Cathedral.”

The model is 6 feet and 3 inches in length and 4 feet and 6 inches wide, and has working internal lights.  A group of American tourists were among the first to admire it on the day.

With thanks to Jonathan Hull (Armagh Communications Officer) for photography and Triangle Housing Association for its support through the Housing for All good relations funding programme.
