Church of Ireland Notes from ‘The Irish Times’

November with CMH:I

As November approaches the Church’s Ministry of Healing has announced a programme to take time during the month to slow down, return to our true belonging, and learn about ourselves and God through His Creation & His Word.

Join Lydia from the CMH:I and Julie from the National Bible Society for Ireland to take a pause in nature. Come to 1 or more sessions. They will be held on 5 November: 11.30am– 1pm; 12 November: 6.30pm–8pm; 19 November: 11.30am–1pm; and 26 November: 6.30pm– 8pm, in the Atlas Language School Residence, 96 Rathmines Road Upper, Dublin D06 Y684.

Each 90–minute session has settling in practices to support us to slow down and notice what’s here, internally and all around us. And then some time is spent in an interactive Bible Study – nourishing mind, body and spirit. Reserve your space via www.ministryofhealing.ie

St Philip’s annual Art Exhibition and Sale will take place in St Philip’s Hall, Temple Road. Dartry  D06 AX71, beginning on Thursday, from 2–8pm, and continuing on Friday 1 November from 10am – 6pm, Saturday 2 November from 10am – 6pm and Sunday 3 November from 12.30–4pm.

Church Music Dublin has announced that it will hold a Plainsong Workshop for Organists, Choir Directors and Singers on Saturday 9 November in St Pappan’s church, Church , Santry, beginning at 1.45pm. The workshop will be led by Dr David O’Shea, Director of Music in Sandford & St Philip’s parishes.

Plainsong (also called plainchant or Gregorian chant) is the most ancient form of Christian music. It is simple, easy to sing and devotional in character. While open to all interested, this event is primarily for organists and singers from Church of Ireland parishes and will introduce participants to a variety of accessible music that can be used in a parish setting with small groups of singers. A booklet containing music used will be available for each participant.

Following the workshop, at 3.30pm, the participants will sing as a choir for a celebration of the Eucharist, led by Canon David Oxley, Rector of Santry group of parishes.

Please register by emailing [email protected] to receive a music booklet on the day. Learn more in advance at the  Plainsong page on the Church Music Dublin website – .[email protected]
