CITI Course Begins

A total of 36 students will attend for the commencement of the fourth cycle of the ‘Certificate in Christian Theology and Practice’ which begins this weekend at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute. The programme, entitled ‘Fit for the Purpose’, takes as its theme a personal and biblical exploration of various matters to do with vocation. The lead facilitators are Dr Christina Baxter, former Principal of St John’s College Nottingham, and  Canon Maurice Elliott, Director of CITI. The group facilitators are Rev Ruth Noble, Revd Danielle McCullagh, Andrew Brannigan and Andrew McNeile. Students embarking on the Certificate course fall into four different categories – those who may be considering selection towards stipendiary ministry training, those who have been selected for Ordained Local Ministry, those in training as Diocesan Readers, and those who simply wish to deepen their own understanding of the Christian faith.

This evening (Friday) at 7:30pm the Bishop of Tuam, Limerick & Killaloe, the Rt Revd Michael Burrows, will preside at a Service of Welcome in St Michael’s church, Killorglin, Co. Kerry, for the Revd Mark Blakely as Priest–in–Charge of the Kilcolman union of parishes. A son of the Church of Ireland, Mr Blakeley is returning from the Diocese of Rochester.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the closing date for submissions for the 2024 St Mary’s Cathedral Community Awards Scheme. The Scheme hopes to highlight the ‘unsung heroes’ of Limerick and will awarded with a certificate in February 2025. Anyone from Limerick City may be nominated (by anyone) who has made a contribution towards any aspect of the civic life.

The season of Advent begins in Sunday. At the Morning Service, Zion Church in Dublin’s Rathgar, will celebrate with music, readings and poetry for the Advent Season. In St Patrick’s cathedral, Dublin, there will be an Advent Carol Service at 6pm.
