The Effects of Storm Éowyn
As many counties were left reeling from the effects of Storm Éowyn last Friday, the reality of damage to property and infrastructure only became clear over the weekend. Some of the worst affected areas were along the western and north–western coasts, and the midlands. In many areas, the lack of running water and electricity has hampered clean–up operations, with many homes and businesses facing long delays for repairs.
Reports from parishes across Ireland have shown that many church buildings have suffered damage to roofs, windows, and towers, as well as fallen trees, damaged churchyard walls, and headstones (see photo gallery below). If parishes have suffered damage as a result of the storm and would like any advice, please get in touch with the RCB Property Department via e–mail [email protected] or using information at the link below.
As always, the importance of communities, neighbours and volunteers across the island becomes abundantly clear during times of need like this. A debt of gratitude is owed to local emergency response teams, first responders, and to parish volunteers, clergy and staff in securing property, managing risk and clearing up storm damage. Unfortunately, some damage takes more than a ‘clear up’. The following links may be helpful if you need to contact the RCB, or to apply for some help to rectify damage to property.
