Irish Council of Churches to hold annual meeting

The Irish Council of Churches (ICC) members of its 15 member churches will be holding their 102nd annual meeting tomorrow in Centenary Methodist Church, Dublin.

The theme for the day will be: ‘Does the Church have a voice in the public square?’ Professor Ben Tonra from UCD will give the keynote address. Ben Tonra is Full Professor of International Relations at the UCD School of Politics and International Relations. The theme will be further teased out with a panel of frontline practitioners. The Revd Kiran Wimberley and Revd Dr Karen Campbell will provide a musical ‘Psalm Jam: Psalms to sing in times of global uncertainty’.

A detailed report about ICC’s work during the past 12 months and plans for the coming year will be presented to the Council. The AGM will include an overview of the Good Relations Work that has been possible due to the funding provided by the Benefact Trust.

Clergy from the local Church of Ireland, Methodist and Presbyterian parishes have helped to shape and plan the day, which will be chaired by the President, Rt Rev Sarah Groves, Bishop from the Moravian Church.

Council members appointed by the member churches from all over the island with invited guests from local churches and ecumenical partner organisations will be among the 80 people expected.
