Day 1

Bill Seeks to Simplify Vestry Members’ Registration Process

A Bill which, if enacted, will see two separate forms of declaration for members seeking to be registered on the register of vestry members of a parish replaced with a single form was presented at General Synod in Naas today (Friday May 9).

Bill No 8 proposes merging the current two forms of declaration for registered vestry

members in order to have just one form for both resident and accustomed vestry

members, with an option to select which form of member the declarant is. The new form will also include space for a postcode or Eircode and an email address as well as seeking consent for the parish to store and process the data provided for parochial purposes.

The Bill is proposed by Quentin Teggin and seconded by Robert Syme. Mr Teggin said that the Bill “seeks to update the current vestry member registration forms to reflect changes in society since the current forms were introduced”. He added that the redesign of the form and replacing two forms with one form incorporating a ‘tick box’ option would simplify administration and completion of the form.

The bill will come before Synod again on Tuesday evening for final consideration.
