Day 1

Bishop Nulty Brings Greetings of the Catholic Church

Bishop Denis Nulty of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin brought greetings from the Catholic Church to General Synod this afternoon (Friday May 9).

He said it was a joy to be here on behalf of the Irish Bishops’ Conference and it was really interesting to hear the issues raised during the various reports. He mentioned the section on the Follow Me programme and said that the Catholic Church faced similar issues.

He also highlighted the importance of clergy care and dealing with sources of stress.

He said yesterday was a wonderful day with the election of Pope Leo XIV to lead the Catholic Church at this time. He said Pope Leo’s motto is critical – ‘In one Christ we are one’. “There is a lot more that unites us than divides us,” Bishop Nulty concluded.
