Day 2
Synod Receives Report of the Liturgical Advisory Committee
The report of the Liturgical Advisory Committee was presented to General Synod this afternoon (Saturday May 11).
Dean Nigel Dunne stressed that the brevity of the report and his speech masked the huge amount of work done by the LAC. He noted that the single largest piece of work carried out by the committee was the ‘Journeys’ resource by the Revd Julie Bell which was launched at Synod yesterday.
He said that Journeys was a very large piece of work and was designed to integrate with the Book of Common Prayer, the worshipping life of the church and the Revised Common Lectionary.
Another part of the LAC’s work he highlighted was looking at how material was made available online. He said the committee was working on building a separate LAC website so that all its material would be available there and there would be a link from the Church of Ireland website to it. He hoped that would be delivered next year.
Last year the LAC published resources for young adults and the uptake had been encouraging, Dean Dunne reported. This year they introduced a prayer card called ‘Take a Minute’ which had mainly focused on distributing through university chaplains.
The LAC exists to support the ministry of the church, he said adding that much of our material is coming from requests from committees. He encouraged committees and individuals to contact them with ideas.
