Rathmichael’s African Project
A team from Rathmichael parish in Dublin, who have been commissioned by the Archbishop of Dublin, will travel to Kenya in August to build on their partnership with the Diocese of Maseno North.
This visit follows on from Rathmichael’s visit in 2023, when the team refurbished Wandeche School. This was the first part of a five–year partnership between Rathmichael and the Diocese of Maseno North, which came about from a meeting between Bishop Charles Kascan Asilutwa of Maseno North, and Archbishop Michael Jackson, at the 2022 Lambeth Conference.
The visit in August will focus on Kwiliba School which is about three times the size of Wandeche. Although this is an increased challenge, a larger group, including the Rector, the Revd Sean Hanily, will travel this summer. It includes people with experiences in trade and building, along with some of the young people of the parish community. As well as completely refurbishing the school, the team will also build a new toilet block for Kwiliba School.
Fundraising has been ongoing by Canon Geoffrey Perrin. Those who are interested in supporting this project may donate to Rathmichael Parish Church a/c no. 40168005, IBAN IE31 AIBK 9333 9240 1680 05.
Summer Music in Sandford continues in Sandford parish church, Ranelagh today (Friday) at 1.10 pm in Sandford parish church, Ranelagh, where there will be a recital by contralto Sarah Thursfield, and David O’Shea on the organ.
The duo will perform again at 7pm on Sunday in All Saints church, Blackrock, on Dublin’s Carysfort Avenue, which is celebrating its 155th anniversary. It had intended to have a 150th anniversary celebration but Covid got in the way. All Saints church will be open to visitors each Saturday in July and August from 2–4pm, with a display of historical documents.
On Sunday morning the Archbishop of Dublin will attend the National Day of Commemoration at Royal Hospital, Kilmainham which begins at 11am. Canon Alan Marley will represent the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne & Ross at National Day of Commemoration in Cork.
In Dublin on Sunday the Choir of St Paul’s church, Glenageary, will sing at the 11am Eucharist and at Evensong at 3.30pm in Christ Church cathedral while in St Patrick’s cathedral the Girl’s Choir of Christ Church cathedral, Ottawa, will sing at the 11.15am Eucharist and at the 3.15pm Evensong.
Each year Sea Sunday is celebrated, worldwide, on the second Sunday of July. This year Sea Sunday will be celebrated on Sunday 13 July. Churches worldwide are asked to remember seafarers and their families and those who give of their time in seafarers centres around the world. We depend and take for granted in this island country how much we need seafarers for all we buy in supermarkets and stores. Seafarers are often separated from their families and loved ones for very long periods of time. The Revd Willie Black is the Honorary Dublin Port Chaplain.
