New Dean of Christ Church
The Archbishop of Dublin has appointed Canon Tom O’Brien to be the next Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, in succession to the Very Revd Dermot Dunne who will retire at the end of August. Canon O’Brien has been Canon Treasurer of Christ Church since 2024 and is a member of the cathedral’s Finance Committee.
He worked for many years in a variety of capacities in the HSE across the communities of North County Dublin and in other roles within the HSE at a high level and continued in the HSE in tandem with ordained ministry for a considerable period. Most recently he has served as the Minister in St James’s Church Crinken. Building on the inheritance of his predecessors, he has opened up new pathways of every–member–ministry including the embracing of Pioneer Ministry in the expanding area of Shanganagh. Canon O’Brien is also one of the Directors of Ordinands for the Diocese of Dublin & Glendalough.

CMH:I will also host ‘Art in D’, at Egan House, St Michan’s Church. This will be a relaxed and fun art session to make a mixed–media journal cover, with artist Nathalie Borel, on 11 or 25 June, 11am–12.30pm. Nathalie is a wonderful artist, who uses mixed–media, paint, gelli–plates, and sea glass to create beautiful pieces. Come along to slow down, to give yourself permission to be creative, and enjoy refreshments and a chat as well. We have limited space, so do book in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment – go to www.ministryofhealing.ie for bookings. These sessions are generously sponsored by Merchant’s Quay Ireland and Dublin City Council.
Notice is given of an EGM of the Sunday School Society for Ireland in Church House Rathmines on Monday 6 July at 2pm.
