Bishop Trevor Williams looks back over his service in ordained ministry

In an extended video interview with Ray Hayden, Bishop Trevor Williams looks back over his many years of service in ordained ministry which also included working as producer for BBC Radio Ulster’s Sunday Sequence in the 1980s.  After eight memorable years in broadcasting, mainly in radio, his parish ministry continued and led to him becoming Bishop of Limerick and Killaloe from 2008 to 2014.  Seeking to build peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland, as a member of the Corrymeela Community since 1980, has been a priority throughout this ministry.

One key theme that connects journalism and church life, he relates, is: “Let’s look at what’s going on and see does that really match up with the kind of place we want to be.”  He continues: “I suppose, in a way, that’s core to how I see the Church’s role – to ask questions of society and say not in a ‘I know better than you’ kind of way but let’s have a discussion.  What kind of place do we want to live in?  What kind of world do we want to create?  And we are responsible for that world, and let’s find out how we can make this a better place for everybody.”
