Lay Ministers’ Retreats Offer a Day of Reflection and Renewal
The Commission on Ministry recently hosted its first retreats specifically for Lay Ministers across the Church of Ireland, providing a valuable opportunity for participants to step aside from the demands of ministry and daily life to rest, reflect, pray, and renew their sense of calling.
The retreats took place in two locations:
• Dominican Retreat Centre, Tallaght, on 3 October 2026, for participants from the Republic of Ireland.
• Murlough House, Dundrum, Co Down, on 10 October 2026, for participants from Northern Ireland.
These gatherings marked an important milestone in the work of the Commission on Ministry, recognising and supporting the significant contribution lay ministers make to the life and mission of the Church.
The Republic of Ireland retreat was led by Dr Julie McKinley of the National Bible Society and explored Abraham’s Journeys as a framework for reflecting on vocation and faith. In Northern Ireland, Alan and Pauline Wilson guided participants through sessions on prayer, Scripture, Lectio Divina, solitude, and silence.
The retreats were organised by the Revd Lesley Robinson in Tallaght and Mrs Judith Cairns in Dundrum under the guidance of the Rt Revd David McClay, Chair of the Commission on Ministry.
Feedback from participants highlighted the value of having dedicated time away from everyday responsibilities to focus on spiritual renewal and personal growth. The retreats also strengthened connections among lay ministers serving in different contexts across the Church.
The Commission on Ministry extends its thanks to the speakers, organisers, venue staff, and all who participated in these enriching days of reflection and renewal.
