Archbishop of Dublin congratulates Archbishop Martin

CHURCH OF IRELAND ARCHBISHOP OF DUBLIN CONGRATULATIES ARCHBISHOP MARTIN

The following statement has been issued by the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill on the retirement of Cardinal Connell:

"I offer my sincere congratulations and good wishes to the Most Revd Dr. Diarmuid Martin as he takes office as Archbishop of Dublin. I have valued the opportunity of talking with him and sharing with him on occasions during this past few months, and I know that we will be able to share in a common Christian witness in the coming years. I pray that God will strengthen and guide him as he provides pastoral care and leadership in the city and diocese, and that through his ministry many may be led to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

"I extend to Cardinal Desmond Connell my prayerful good wishes as he steps aside from his office. I thank him for his friendship, and his attendance at so many functions in the Church of Ireland and particularly in Christ Church Cathedral."
