The Most Reverend John Neill will be enthroned as Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough, Primate of Ireland and Metropolitan, in Christ Church Cathedral Dublin on Saturday 12 October 2002 at 2.30 pm.

A large and distinguished congregation will be present including Dublin’s Lord Mayor Councillor Dermot Lacey, members of the Dáil and Seanad and the Diplomatic Corps.

Representatives of other Churches will include Cardinal Desmond Connell, Archbishop of Dublin; the Papal Nuncio, the Most Revd Dr Guiseppe Lazzarotto; the Revd Mary Hunter, The Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the Revd Donaldson Rogers, The Methodist Church in Ireland.

Also present will be Bishop Christina Odenburg from the Church of Sweden and Fr George Zavershinsky from the Russian Orthodox Church.

The service begins with the archbishop giving the traditional three-fold knock with his pastoral staff on the Great West Door on St Michael’s Hill to be admitted by the Dean, the Very Revd John Paterson, and the Chapter.

During the service the actual enthronement will take place when the Dean formally installs the archbishop in the archbishop’s seat or throne.

Archbishop Neill will give an address and the service will end with a procession to the South Door from which the Archbishop will impart his blessing on the city and the dioceses.
