ADDITIONAL APCK PAMPHLETS ON CHURCH TEACHING LAUNCHED

New APCK pamphlets
New APCK pamphlets

‘The Bible’, ‘The Eucharist’ and ‘Mary: Virgin and Mother’ are the subjects of three attractive new pamphlets produced by APCK to outline Church of Ireland teaching and provide information to church members as well as enquirers and members of other churches. Launched at Church of Ireland House on 4th September 2002, these three pamphlets, which are set out in a user friendly question and answer style, will be a useful addition to the earlier pamphlets on the Church of Ireland (Irish & Universal, Clergy & People, and Protestant & Catholic ).

On the Bible, the new pamphlet covers issues such as whether all Christians share the same Bible, whether the Bible is historically accurate, how it should be interpreted, and how the Bible’s authority relates to human reason and the church’s tradition. The new pamphlet on The Eucharist begins with a definition of the word ‘eucharist’, and also looks at Church of Ireland teaching on the sacrament, how we understand Christ’s presence in the sacrament, how our church understands the Eucharist as a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to God, and whether the Church of Ireland permits other Christians to receive communion in the Church of Ireland. The third pamphlet on Mary: Virgin and Mother addresses what special recognition is given to Mary, whether the Church of Ireland prays to Mary, and how our teaching on Mary compares with that of other churches.

Attractively packaged and clearly labelled, these three pamphlets will be a valuable teaching aid and a useful addition to the literature available in our churches and parishes.
