"TWINS" GIVE POSITIVE START TO COVENANT DEBATE

Two Church leaders who have much in common will make significant speeches to the General Synod of the Church of Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday (14th May 2002), the first day of the three-day event.

Church of Ireland Primate, Archbishop Robin Eames and Methodist President Harold Good, share the same birthday, went to school together and have been close friends ever since.

Their speeches will herald the debate on a new Covenant between the Church of Ireland and the Methodist Church which would create a special relationship between the two Churches.

The “twins” history is seen as a positive starting point to this milestone in Irish Church History.

This Covenant relationship will involve mutual recognition and sharing of ministries in a ten-point commitment which the Synod will be asked to agree.
