ELECTORAL COLLEGE FOR DIOCESE OF CASHEL AND OSSORY

On Wednesday 23rd April an Electoral College will be held in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin to elect a Bishop for the Dioceses of Cashel, Waterford, Lismore, Ossory, Ferns and Leighlin. The vacancy has occurred due to the retirement of Bishop Noel Willoughby after 17 years in the diocese.

Under the Presidency of the Primate of Ireland and Metropolitan, Archbishop Walton Empey, three members of the House of Bishops, plus three clerical and three lay electors from the four other dioceses of the Southern Province and twelve clerical and twelve lay electors from the vacant See of Cashel and Ossory will begin their task at 2 p.m.

The process will last for one day and if a decision is not made, the House of Bishops will appoint. Journalists will be notified as to the result, probably at 4.30 p.m. on the day.
