ARMAGH SYNOD EXPRESSES CONCERN

At the Armagh Diocesan Synod held today a Resolution was unanimously passed as follows:

"That the Armagh Diocesan Synod expresses its deep concern at the possible outcome of the present reviews of acute medical services in the Northern, Western and Southern Health and Social Services Boards. The Synod feels strongly that any removal of acute medical services would inflict serious hardship on the most vulnerable people in the community. This is particularly so in the case of those who live in isolated rural communities with poor public transport.

"The Synod is especially concerned at the present proposals contained in the McKenna Report concerning the removal of acute medical services from the South Tyrone Hospital in Dungannon."

Proposed by the Reverend Canon William G Neely, Rector of Keady, Co.Armagh and Seconded by the Reverend Canon Derrick Swann, Rector of Drumglass, Dungannon
