CONSECRATION OF ST. ELIZABETH'S CHURCH, MOYGASHEL
(Diocese of Armagh)
| Saturday 12th October 2002 Today the Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd Dr Robin Eames, consecrated the Church of St Elizabeth, in the village of Moygashel, on the outskirts of Dungannon. This is only the third Church to be consecrated in Armagh Diocese in the last one hundred years. The foundation stone of the building was laid on the 28th September 1950 and it was then dedicated on Saturday 11th October 1952 by the Most Revd J.A.F.Gregg. It originally was designed to be a dual purpose building, with mid week parochial activities and Sunday worship being held within its walls although during its fifty year history it has been used mainly for worship. With the provision of a new hall it was decided by the Rector and Select Vestry that the building should be consecrated and become a Church in its own right. The Church furnishings were purchased from the old Church at Charlemont which was closed a number of years ago and have been lovingly restored by one of the parishioners of St Elizabeth’s. St Elizabeth’s is the second Church building in the Parish of Drumglass and its new name links it with the town Church of St Anne. The service was well attended by parishioners, friends and clergy many of whom were present at the dedication service fifty years ago.
