MAJOR WORK ON DOWN CATHEDRAL LAUNCHED

On Saturday 6th December at 11 a.m. this publication on the historical, archaeological and clerical life of the Hill of Down and the Cathedral of Saint Patrick will be launched by the Bishop of Down and Dromore, the Right Reverend Harold Miller.

Produced by the Ulster Historical Foundation in association with the Board of Down Cathedral it tells the history of one of the two oldest ecclesiastical foundations still in use in Ulster.

It takes careful account of the latest research, some of it controversial, on the association of Saint Patrick and the site.

Some of the record details are seeing the light of day for the first time. It is also so up to date that it includes the Channel 4 Time Team archaeological dig of 1996. It is entitled Down Cathedral : The Church of Saint Patrick of Down, and the author is J Frederick Rankin, a well-known name in the Church of Ireland and historical circles.

Journalists and photographers welcome
