ARCHBISHOP EMPEY CONGRATULATES NEW CARDINAL
The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Reverend Dr Walton Empey, issued the following statement on hearing that Archbishop Desmond Connell is to become a Cardinal:
"I extend my sincere congratulations to Archbishop Desmond Connell on his elevation to the position of Cardinal. It is certainly a fitting reward for one who has served his Church with quiet devotion, faithfulness and in a spirit of fearlessness. I have always been the recipient of his courtesy and kindness and I pray that God will bless him in his new sphere of responsibility."
