DISCOVERY
Discovering ourselves - an Anglican initiative in Dublin
10 ? 13 June Church of St George & St Thomas
Cathal Brugha Street
The Church of Ireland is launching a dramatic new initiative in inner city Dublin engaging with newly arrived ethnic groups.
According to Rev Katherine Poulton, who ministers in the inner city parish covering the Parnell Street area, "Up to 50% of Nigerian immigrants are born Anglicans, but few of these make formal links with the Church of Ireland when they arrive here."
?Discovery? is an initiative of the Dublin and Glendalough Diocese to help Christians who have arrived in Dublin from other countries to discover useful connections with fellow Christians and with institutions in Irish society that may be helpful to them. It is being launched with an exhibition and a series of seminars on 9th June in St George and St Thomas Church, Cathal Brugha St.
Seminars are aimed at providing new arrivals with information on the Church of Ireland and on their rights and the social services available to them.
Rev Poulton said: "The exhibition will conclude on Sunday with a dramatic African style worship service, which will be multi-cultural. We hope this is the beginning of a process of discovery and growth for the Church of Ireland as much as for those we want to welcome."
