PRIMATE TO VISIT BRAZIL AND PARAGUAY

On Sunday 31st May Archbishop Robin Eames will leave for a nine day tour of Brazil and Paraguay on behalf of SAMS (South American Mission Society) to visit local missionaries working among the disadvantaged.

He will be accompanied by the Rev Canon Ken Clarke and Rev Canon Desmond McCreery.

The purpose of the visit is to highlight the overseas missionary work of the Church of Ireland, to visit missionary workers from Ireland who are teaching and caring for the Street Children and to underline the witness of the Anglican church in that part of South America.

The work of volunteers in South America is loosing ground in media coverage due to the war and famine in Africa. None the less there is terrible deprivation, potential for serious health problems and human rights issues that cannot go by default with the approach of the Second Millennium.

Archbishop Eames will be available for interview up to lunch time on Sunday, 31st May and on his return on 10th June.
