ARCHBISHOP OF DUBLIN CONDEMNS BURNING OF CHURCHES IN NORTHERN IRELAND

The Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Walton Empey, has issued the following statement on the burning of churches in Northern Ireland:

It was with a sense of bitter revulsion that I learned of the savage attacks on Roman Catholic Churches in Northem Ireland. No Christian of any persuasion could possibly condone such foul and senseless acts on buildings set apart for the worship of God.

On behalf of the Church of Ireland people in the Republic I condemn such disgraceful acts without reservation and express my deepest sympathy to the priests and people of those parishes in which these mindless acts of desecration were committed.
