HONORARY SECRETARY OF SYNOD RESIGNS

Mr Elydyr Cookman from Raphoe, Co Donegal has resigned as Honorary Secretary of the Standing Committee of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland.

Mr Cookman, who has been the Northern lay Honorary Secretary since 1989, has resigned for health reasons.

Archbishop Robin Eames, President of the General Synod, has paid tribute to Mr Cookman, praising his dedication to the work and the church as a whole as a Diocesan lay reader for the dioceses of Derry and Raphoe.

The Archdeacon of Dublin, Gordon Linney, resigned last week in order to spend more time with his family and in his parish.

There are two lay and two Clerical Honorary Secretaries from the North and South provinces of the Church of Ireland whose duties include the organisation of business for Standing Committee and General Synod.
