NEW EDUCATION OFFICER APPOINTED
Rev John McCullagh, incumbent of Clondalkin and Rathcoole (Dublin Diocese), has been appointed Education Officer at Church House, Dublin. He succeeds Dr Harold Hislop as Education Officer/Secretary, General Synod Board of Education. Dr Hislop resigned at the end of October to join the Republic's Department of Education inspectorate.
Mr McCullagh is a member of the Board of Education (Republic of Ireland) and current Chairman of the Dublin and Glendalough Diocesan Board of Education. He is a former teacher and headmaster who has represented the Board (Republic of Ireland) at meetings of the partners in education and, at diocesan level, he has been involved in the planning and delivery of training for Boards of Management and support for Chairpersons and Principals. He takes up his new post in mid January 1999.
