ALL-IRELAND PRESIDENT OF THE MOTHERS' UNI

Mrs Thelma Mehaffey of the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe has been re-elected as All-Ireland President of the Mothers' Union until the end of 2001.

She was Diocesan President of Derry and Raphoe Mothers' Union from 1981 - 1988 and prior to her election as All-Ireland President she had been a Vice President for Ireland. An important part of her responsibility will be to implement the strategic plan drawn up by the Trustees at central level. The implications of this are radical and far-reaching and include making the Mothers' Union more relevant in today's world.

Mrs Mehaffey and the All-Ireland Council have invited the Mothers' Union members from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland to hold their General Meeting in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast in September 2000. This will be an historic occasion as it will be the first time that this annual meeting has been held in Ireland.
