PRIMATE CONFIRMS PLANS FOR GENERAL SYNOD 2001
Archbishop Robin Eames, today confirmed that the Church of Ireland General Synod is to be held in the O'Reilly Hall, University College Dublin on 15, 16 and 17 May 2001.
Archbishop Eames said: "I am aware that there is uncertainty about holding Synod because of the foot-and-mouth scare. But there are now such hopeful signs of continuing improvement that I can confirm that the General Synod will be held in May. If the situation deteriorates, however, tentative plans are in place to postpone the General Synod until September."
The General Synod meets annually with around 550 delegates attending from all over Ireland.
