The Rev. Arthur Barrett has been appointed as Official Chaplain to Rally Ireland.

Rev. Arthur Barrett (Chaplain, Rally Ireland) with Ronan Morgan (Promoter, Rally Ireland)
Rally Ireland is set to be the biggest sporting event in Ireland this year, and perhaps ever, and it is about to hit the North-West. It is the penultimate round of the World Rally Championship, and is being held in Ireland for the first time. Taking place from 15th – 18th November, the Rally headquarters are in Sligo, with Special Stages in counties Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Donegal.
Commenting on the appointment of Rev. Arthur Barrett as Chaplain, Ronan Morgan, event Promoter said, ‘We feel that it is very important to have a Chaplain for such an historic and world-class event. Rally Ireland will have competitors and visitors from all over the world, and we believe that it is important that we provide for their pastoral care. Rev. Barrett has been involved in international rallies in the past, and so is well placed to provide whatever pastoral care may be required to the rallying community.’
Rev. Barrett is Rector of the Boyle and Riverstown Group of Church of Ireland Parishes, situated in south Co. Sligo and north Co. Roscommon, and is DCO (Diocesan Communications Officer) for the Diocese of Kilmore, Elphin & Ardagh.
There are over 90 competitors due to start Rally Ireland, coming from 21 different countries, including Qatar, Japan, Australia and the USA.
The Ceremonial Opening and a Super Special Stage takes place in Stormont Castle, Belfast, on Thursday evening. This will be televised live. There is expected to be a world-wide television audience of Rally Ireland of about 80 million people.
