Response of the Legislation & Politics Committee (NI) to the Bill of Rights Forum - Final Report
The Committee has examined the Final Report of the Bill of Rights Forum with great interest.
We are disappointed that the debate on human rights in this instance has not succeeded in rising above existing divisions.
It seems that this exercise has not proved to be the means to achieve a desired common approach for a Human Rights Bill for Northern Ireland.
The Committee regrets this failure and reiterates the Church of Ireland's support for human rights.
We hope that existing legislation can be used and developed where necessary to entrench and safeguard human rights.
