Archbishop Harper calls for prayer for the Holy Land

As part of the preparation for the visit to the Holy Land by the leaders of Ireland’s four main churches next week, Archbishop Alan Harper has asked parishes throughout the Church of Ireland to pray for the region as part of their worship on Sunday, 27th April.

Archbishop Harper sees the visit as one of listening to and experiencing the difficulties of others. "This is an opportunity to show the solidarity of churches in Ireland with people living in the Holy Land and especially the Christian community. By sharing our experiences of living through troubled times and listening and observing we hope to share an authentic message of peace and reconciliation which will offer hope in this awful situation."

Prayer

Living Lord, ignite in us a passion for justice and a yearning to right all wrong.

Strengthen us to work for peace on the land we call holy;
For peace among Jew, Christian and Muslim
For reconciliation between communities
For harmony between faiths.

Inspire us to act with the urgency of your quickening fire,
for blessed are the peacemakers,
they shall be called children of God.

Amen

The Church leaders will be accompanied on their pilgrimage by Mr Stephen Lynas, of the Presbyterian Information Services and further enquiries or requests for photographs regarding the visit for use in diocesan media may be obtained from him:
