The Bishop of Cashel, the Right Revd Michael Burrows, is to take over the Chair of the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG) Ireland, in succession to the former Bishop of Limerick, the Right Revd Michael Mayes, who has retired.

Bishop Burrows was unanimously elected at a board meeting on 10th April. Speaking later that day, he said, “I am delighted to accept this role with USPG Ireland. USPG is an organization that has always had an imaginative and thoughtful approach to mission. I also appreciate its role in creating and building up relationships all around the Anglican Communion not least in these turbulent times.

USPG Ireland aims to help churches in Ireland to be in relationship with other Anglican churches within the Communion.” Linda Chambers, National Director of USPG Ireland said, “I look forward to working together with Bishop Michael to continue to raise the profile of USPG Ireland. I believe that we have a vital role to play in supporting local churches as they engage in holistic mission in the place where God has called them.”
