Bishop of Jerusalem to visit Clogher Diocese

The Bishop of Clogher, the Right Reverend Dr Michael Jackson is delighted that The Right Reverend Suheil Dawani, Bishop of Jerusalem, has agreed to come to the Diocese of Clogher during the period 8 – 12 May 2008. This visit is part of the Macartan 1500+ Project, which celebrates over 1500 years since the death of Clogher Diocese’s patron saint - St Macartan. The Project, which is coordinated by Clogher Diocese, is financed by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and managed by the Fermanagh Local Strategy Partnership (FLSP).

In welcoming this announcement, Bishop Jackson said, “Bishop Suheil will be very welcome in Clogher Diocese. The Diocese of Jerusalem has a tremendously rich heritage, and Bishop Suheil has much to tell us about the challenges to daily life in the Middle East.”

The Diocese of Jerusalem extends over five countries, including Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Israel. Bishop Suheil became Bishop of Jerusalem on 15 April 2007. His vision for the future of the Diocese is to engage in the ministry of reconciliation and to urge the faithful to join efforts for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. In referring to the importance of Jerusalem, Bishop Suheil emphasizes that he sees it as his duty, and that of all Christians, to make Jerusalem a model for peace between the three Abrahamic faiths.

The Bishop will commence his visit to Clogher Diocese by giving a public lecture in the Ardhowen Theatre on Thursday 8 May at 8.00pm. Tickets are free of charge and can be reserved by contacting the Ardhowen Box Office on 028 66 325 440.
