Diocesan Synod addressed by the Bishop of Cork

The Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Right Revd Paul Colton, has addressed the members of the Diocesan Synod of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.

The Bishop addressed issues of critical importance to the Anglican Communion such as disagreements within the Communion, this summer's Lambeth Conference, the proposed Anglican Covenant and the role of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Defending the parliamentary model employed by synods, the Bishop stated that "as long as we use our structures well and subject them to perceptive scrutiny; as long as we have the courage to make change where it is sensible; then I believe that broadly this representative, conciliar, synodical and parliamentary model serves its purpose well."

The Bishop congratulated the Ven. Robin Bantry White on his recent election to be one of the two Clerical Honorary Secretaries of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland, and thanked the many people who served the diocese in so many ways.
