Heating renovations close Kilkenny Cathedral

HEATING RENOVATIONS TO CLOSE KILKENNY CATHEDRAL

In order that major refurbishment work on its 150 year old heating system can be completed properly, St Canice?s Cathedral in Kilkenny has had to close its doors to visitors until Monday October 25th 2004, in accordance with health and safety considerations.

Services will resume in the cathedral on Sunday 24th October. Until them all services will take place in St John?s Church on John Street, Kilkenny.

The cathedral?s Round Tower is not affected by this work and will remain open as usual.

?This is not a decision we took lightly,? said the administrator, Mark Bowyer, ?from a health and safety point of view and after discussion with the dean and the contractor, it was the only one that could be taken. We look forward to re-opening the cathedral to visitors on October 25th.?
