New Lectionary Published
Sunday and Weekday Readings 2009, a helpful sixty page booklet setting out clearly all the provisions for bible reading in church from Advent Sunday 2008 to the eve of Advent Sunday 2009, has been published by Church of Ireland Publishing. In its third year of publication, it has been found highly convenient for lecterns and valuable for personal use at home alongside a bible. For those who want a one-reading programme one of the readings set for weekday Holy Communion is printed in italics. There is an online version of the Weekday Lectionary available here.
The booklet has been compiled by Canon Brian Mayne, who has provided the lectionary material for the Church of Ireland Gazette for the past fifteen years. Canon Mayne who was rector of the Lecale group of parishes, centred on Downpatrick, until his retirement in 2001 is a former Honorary Secretary of the Liturgical Advisory Committee.
The price of the lectionary is unchanged from 2008, costing £3 in Northern Ireland and €4 in the Republic of Ireland. Copies are available from the Good Bookshop, Donegall Street, Belfast and the Resource Centre, Holy Trinity, Rathmines, Dublin. Enquiries may also be made to the Revd Brian Mayne at 048-4461 2521 or e-mail: BCP Editor .

The Rector of St Paul’s Church Glenageary, the Revd Gary Dowd, and two of his parishioners, Ian French and Michael Webb from the Glenageary Missionary Liaison Group, have recently returned from Kisiisi in South West Uganda where they have been visiting Kisiisi Hospital. The hospital was established in 1958 by the Ruanda Mission and is now part of the ministry of the North Kigezi Diocese of the Church of Uganda. This year it celebrates fifty years of service to the people of Kisiisi and Rukungri.
For the past twenty-five years the parishioners of Glenageary have supported developments at the hospital, assisting in the construction of a number of wards and facilities. One recently completed ward is named after St.Paul’s. In recent years the work on site has been supervised by David Barrett, a retired engineer from St Paul’s who spends much of his time in Kisiisi bringing his expertise and enthuasism to the various projects. The latest project is to construct four operating theatres and on this visit the team from Glenageary has sought to complete the planning for the project and set out a programme for the work. The Kisiisi Hospital web site is www.kisiizihospital.org.ug
