Archbishop of Armagh Expresses Sympathy on Death of Former RUC Chief Constable

ARCHBISHOP OF ARMAGH EXPRESSES SYMPATHY ON DEATH OF FORMER R.U.C. CHIEF CONSTABLE SIR JOHN HERMON

The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, the Most Revd Alan Harper OBE, today expressed his sympathy to the family of the late Sir John Hermon, saying:

‘It is with great sadness that I heard today of the death of Sir John (Jack) Hermon after a considerable period of ill health. Sir Jack gave robust leadership to the R.U.C. at a very difficult time for Northern Ireland and for the R.U.C. itself. I have no doubt that the standards of personal integrity that Sir Jack showed contributed in no small measure to the life of the Province and the record of the police service. I offer my profound sympathy to Lady Sylvia Hermon and the family at this distressing time.’
