St Patrick's Cathedral Charity Concert Proceeds Given to Coombe Hospital

St Patrick's Cathedral Charity Concert Proceeds Provide Vital Equipment to the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital
On Friday 21 November 2008 a formal presentation of the funds raised from the 'Creation for the Coombe' concert held in St Patrick's National Cathedral, Dublin in March 2008 took place at St Patrick's Cathedral Deanery.
The Very Revd RB MacCarthy, Dean of Saint Patrick's Cathedral, presented a cheque to the Master of the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital, Dr Chris Fitzpatrick to cover the full purchase of a Thromboelastograph (TEG) machine for use in the hospital’s anaesthesia, obstetrics and neonatology departments.
This new TEG machine enables the hospital to undertake, plan and perform research and diagnostic testing relating to bleeding disorders and problems during pregnancy and childbirth. The TEG for the Coombe is the first machine of its kind in a public hospital in the Republic of Ireland. Being a university hospital, the machine will benefit trainees as well as patients.
The concert held in March at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin was performed by the Cathedral choir and the Seafield Singers, together with professional soloists and orchestra.
Representatives from the Coombe Hospital, St Patrick’s Cathedral and the various local musical forces involved were all present at the presentation event.
