The first CREED Ireland Conference took place in the Jethro Centre, Lurgan, Co. Armagh on Saturday 22 November 2008. With the aim of facilitating church groups and Christian organisations to engage and extend God’s Kingdom in local communities, there was a full programme of speakers and seminars.

Participants from a wide range of churches and groups attended the event for a day of inspiration, focus and direction. The keynote address was given by the Bishop of Kilmore, the Rt Revd Ken Clarke, and the event was chaired by Revd Robert Miller.

Seminars included: ‘I’ve started so I’ll finish’ with Paul Hoey looking at formulating vision and seeing it through to completion; ‘Developing Programmes and Implementing Vision’ with Ruth Galbraith looking at management structures, financing programmes, property adaptation, recruiting paid and voluntary staff and policy statements; ‘Project Funding’ with Paddy White on creating sustainable funding from a range of different sources; ‘Forming Relationships, Partnerships and Networking’ with Diane Holt looking at the importance of forming relationships, building partnerships and working collaboratively with statutory bodies, other faith based organisations, service providers and community organisations; ‘Taking Risks and Bringing the Members Along’ with Brendan McCarthy considering ways of trying to ensure the congregation remains supportive of new initiatives so that the leadership does not go out on a limb; ‘Not A Community Centre – but the Centre of the Community’ with Trevor Douglas outlining marketing and promotional components of programmes that have created community confidence and secured the financial support of the voluntary and statutory sectors; ‘Vision to Reality – a Story of Transformation’ with Roland Heaney looking at measuring outcomes impacting the Kingdom; and ‘Premises – Consideration of Options’ with Chris Stevenson and Anne Brown examining the suitability of existing buildings, refurbishing issues or capital builds.
