Global Economic Crisis Lecture at St Bartholomew's, Belfast
'When the Credit Crunched: Lessons from the Global Economic Crisis'
Lecture by Economist Dr John Simpson to be given at
St Bartholomew's Church, Belfast

Well-known Belfast economist Dr John Simpson will give the first lecture in the 2009 lunchtime lecture series at St Bartholomew's Church, Stranmillis Road, Belfast, on Tuesday 3 March 2009 at 1.10pm.
Dr Simpson’s lecture, entitled 'When the Credit Crunched: Lessons from a Global Economic Crisis', will address an issue of concern to all and one which has profoundly affected the lives of many people, not least in Northern Ireland. In advance of Tuesday's lecture, Dr Simpson says, 'Northern Ireland is now suffering from a sequence of international high financial events that are well off the scale of people’s experience to date. In my talk I will be exploring how we all, from businesses to the Northern Ireland Executive, need to adopt survival strategies in these difficult financial conditions.'
Rector of St Bartholomew's and organizer of the lecture series, the Revd Dr Ron Elsdon, says, 'The particular importance of addressing this subject is two-fold: firstly, there has been little said in the churches in Ireland that goes to the heart of this matter, and secondly, people are beginning to move beyond the blame game to consider what are the major challenges now facing the economic thinking of nations and corporations alike.'
The lecture is open to all. It begins at 1.10 pm and ends before 2 pm. It will be followed by light refreshments.
