Evening of words and music for Palm Sunday, Glenageary
Local Choirs Sing Together for Charity on Palm Sunday
Over 50 singers from 3 local church choirs will combine together to present an evening of well loved choral classics on Palm Sunday, 5 April, at 7.30pm in St Paul's Church, Glenageary.
This promises to be a lovely evening of music interspersed with suitable readings and is the first time these 3 choirs have sung together. They are the church choirs of St Brigid's Stillorgan, St Paul's Glenageary and Dun Laoghaire Methodist Church, who have been working hard over the last number of weeks to prepare for this evening.
Their programme includes excerpts from Handel's 'Messiah', which has always been enjoyed by Irish audiences ever since its first performance in Dublin in 1742 and this year is the 250th anniversary of Handel's death. For this performance guest soloists will be David English (tenor) and Gillian Lambert (alto). Other highlights will be Faure's 'Cantique de Jean Racine' and Lloyd Webber's 'Pie Jesu', when the soloists will be Andrea Pappin and Karen Armitage. Organ solos by Bach and Pachelbel will be performed by Hilary Dickinson Guter, who is music director of St Brigid's Church, and the combined choirs will be directed by Derek Verso who is organist and music director of St Paul's Church.
Proceeds for the evening will go to building new operating theatres for Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda.
Refreshments will be available after the concert in the Parish Centre. St Paul's Church is situated on the corner of Silchester Road and Adelaide Road and is beside Glenageary Dart Station. There is ample free parking outside and inside the church.
