Ministry DVD
As I Am, a collection of stories exploring a life of ministry, is a DVD produced by the Ministry Formation Project Plan which is part of the General Synod Commission for Ministry. The disk contains the recollections and thoughts of several clergy and looks at how they were drawn into ministry and their experiences to date.
The participants reflect differing aspects of church life. David McDonnell, Simon Genoe and Ruth West have just begun their ministries. They were ordained to the diaconate earlier this summer, and are curates in Dublin, Lisburn and Waterford respectively. Suzanne Harris was also ordained in June but to the non-stipendiary ministry and as well as serving as a curate in Booterstown and Mount Merrion, is also a lay school chaplain. Rob Jones, who is curate in the Dublin CORE ministry has recently completed his diaconate and was ordained to the priesthood in June.
Neal O’ Raw, Andrew McCroskery and Lynda Peilow are at different stages in their first incumbencies – Neal O’Raw in the west of Ireland, Lynda Peilow in Co. Offaly and Andrew McCroskery in the distinctive Anglo-Catholic parish of St Bartholomew, Dublin. The reflections of more experienced incumbents come from William Bennett (Newcastle, Co. Wicklow), Terence Cadden (Portadown) and Adrian McCartney (Belfast).
A more specialist ministry is that of Obinna Ulogwara, originally from Nigeria but now based in Dublin, who is Chaplain to the International Community, while the ministry of Katherine Poulton, who is the Central Director of Ordinands, encompasses a Dublin inner city parish with a multi-cultural congregation, and chaplaincies in Mountjoy Prison, Temple Street Children’s Hospital and the Mater.
Each of the roughly two to three minute interviews van be viewed on-line at www.ministry.ie/as-i-am and copies of the DVD are available from Canon Katherine Poulton at [email protected].
Tomorrow (Sunday) there will be a summer service in Templeconnor Church, Clonmacnioise, at 4pm. In St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin the services will be sung by the choir of Beckenham parish church while next week Evensong will be sung by St Mary’s Ecumenical Choir from Shropshire.
In Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, an RSCM Summer Cathedral Course, directed by Judy Martin, will begin on Monday and continue until 16 August. The members of the course will sing Evensong in the cathedral each day next week, beginning on Tuesday and will sing the services on Sunday 16 August. All cathedral services are proceeded by a public rehearsal which visitors are generally welcome to observe.
Christ Church Cathedral is developing a Past Choristers Association to maintain a connection with the cathedral for those who have sung in the choirs in part years. Membership will be open to former choristers and pupils of the choir school, past and present lay vicars choral, choral scholars and lay clerks, past and present members of the Girls’ Choir and their families together with families and friends of the cathedral choirs, past and present. The cathedral has a database of almost 300 singers who have been members of the cathedral choirs and would be glad to have current contact details for former choir members. It is planned to formally launch the association on Saturday 17 October when it is hoped that as many past choristers as possible will join the cathedral choir to sing Evensong. Further information may be had at [email protected]
On Thursday evening the recital in St Barrahane’s Festival of Church Music in Castletownshend, Co. Cork will be given by Rionna O Duinnin (flute), Geraldine O’Doherty (harp) and Nancy Johnson (viola).
