Connor evening looks at youth work 'Outside the Box'

Young people, youth leaders and clergy are invited to an evening with a difference as Connor Diocese explores youth work ‘outside the box.’
The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, is hosting an evening with Fusion, a youth outreach project based at Lisburn Cathedral which is attracting young people in their hundreds.
In fact, Fusion has more than 2,000 members registered with the project, and up to 300 young people attend its night club style activities every week.
The evening with Fusion is a follow up to the hugely successful Energize evening of youth worship which took place in St Brigid’s, Mallusk, last September. The Fusion event is being organised by the Energize committee.
Committee member Keith Neill, youth worker at Lisburn Cathedral, said the evening would run on the lines Fusion normally operates, with dance music, video games, pool, chill out space, pampering space and prayer space. There will also be worship through dance.
While young people are having a rave in the hall, clergy and youth leaders are welcome in the café were Bishop Alan will talk on doing youth work differently, reflecting on how God has shaped Fusion from an outreach for 24 teens to more than 2,000.
Keith said: “We hope people who come will see how outreach is done in a different way and encourage them to reach out and give young people the opportunity to experience a different kind of event, along with some worship.”
Fusion’s Energize event takes place in Lisburn Cathedral Halls on Sunday September 27 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
